Detox program for the new year?

This is a question that I get asked a lot, so here is my recommendation.

  1. Can you explain the commercialized detoxes?? Such as Ever Cleanse which is advertised everywhere. They promise that this magic powder is going to clean out your colon and magically you drop all the unwanted weight?

  2. Commercialized detoxes vary substantially from one product to the next, but they all have a couple things in common. First off, they promise to remove years of built up crud from the colon wall, and therefore remove the source of much toxic accumulation. Second, they claim to help the body purge itself of built up cellular waste by increasing the activity of the liver, kidneys, and other organs of purification.

Many sites will have horrendous pictures of the horrible crud that comes out of them in the toilet bowl. It must be noted that this is not so much built up mucus from your insides, but the result of the combination of ingredients found in the detox powder (psyllium powder, flax, bentonite clay etc) which congeals to make this gross looking stuff that comes out of you.

They claim weight loss by removal of built up garbage in your system, which I do not entirely agree with.

Here is why I do think that SOME detox and cleanses are good (there are a lot that are just junk). When you do not include enough fiber in your diet, your colon is not able to eliminate properly, and there is an accumulation of waste products which put a toxic load on the system. Over time, this toxic accumulation can no longer by filtered by the body efficiently, and it then shifts into storage mode by dumping more fat and toxins into the fat cells for protection. This is where you start to get fat. I explain this in much more detail in my Daily Detox Diet plan, but the basics are this: Get the colon and elimination organs working optimally, your body will now be able to excrete the toxins, and then you will lose weight as the body no longer needs to hold onto the body fat to buffer the waste.

It's also important to note that any cleanse program MUST be accompanied by an appropriate cleansing nutritional program to ensure success, otherwise you will never allow your body to make the shift into detox due to the constant bombardment of new garbage on a daily basis.
